Chiropractic Care & Pain Management
Chiropractic care is a preferred treatment for back pain and lower back pain for patients in NH. Find out how Hokanson Wellness can put you back on the path to healing and back pain management naturally.
What is Chiropractic Care & How To Know If You Need It?
Chiropractors Help your body heal naturally like it was intended. Your body isn’t designed to never get sick. However, it is designed to heal. As a Chiropractor I locate Spinal Subluxations, (spinal misalignments) to help restore proper biomechanics, kinesiology to the human spine and frame.
The definition of a subluxation is the following;
“A complex of functional and/or structural and/or pathological spinal articular changes that compromise neurological integrity and may influence organ system function and overall general health.” (The ACC Chiropractic Paradigm, 1996)
Most people do not know when they have a subluxation or slight misalignment due to the resiliency of the human body. Most of the time when someone has neck pain or back pain or headaches, or a high shoulder or posture that is off center, it usually means the problem has been there for a while, but the symptoms just showed up. Here at Hokanson Wellness, we don’t chase symptoms. We address the cause of the problem as to restore proper function and keep those recurring symptoms and problems from coming back.
“Chiropractic is a system of therapy focused on the structure of the body, particularly the spine. Chiropractors manipulate the body’s alignment to relieve pain and improve function and to help the body heal itself." (Harvard Medical School, 2021)
While the mainstay of chiropractic is spinal manipulation, chiropractic care may also include other treatments, including manual or manipulative therapies, postural and exercise education, and ergonomic training (how to walk, sit, and stand to limit back strain). Dr. Hokanson also works in conjunction with primary care doctors, pain experts, Physical therapists and surgeons to treat patients with pain and dysfunction.
The most positive research on chiropractic therapy has focused on spinal manipulation for low back pain. As one of the alternatives to pain-relieving drugs, the American College of Physicians low back pain guideline recommends spinal manipulation along with heat, and massage.”

Corrective Exercises
Corrective exercises are the use of bodily movements and/or postures to restore desirable changes in diseased or injured tissues. The corrective exercises are movement strategies that minimize or eliminate compensation. Corrective exercises should precede more integrated exercises, because they can cue the patient’s motor system to respond in a more desirable way and assist in removing or improving biomechanical constraints.

Custom foot orthotics are designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position. They look similar to insoles, but are biomedical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance. The plastic body of the custom orthotic helps to re-align the foot while you walk. We understand that everyone is different, which is why custom foot orthotics are made just for you.

Cold Laser Therapy
All lasers are not the same. There are many imitators However, the Laser we use holds 17 out the 19 FDA clearances. So you can be confident that the studies and results are accurate and produce the results researched and proven.
LASER THERAPY BENEFITS
Laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation, and research published in the Annals of Biomedical Engineering indicates that this type of therapy has been used since the 1960s to help patients better heal from various types of disorders and injuries.
Called by a number of different names — some of which include low-level laser therapy (LLLT), cold laser therapy, Class III laser therapy, or photobiomodulation — laser therapy works by exposing damaged cells or tissues to low levels of light. This instigates biochemical changes which provide the patient a number of benefits.
LLLT AND HEALING
One of the main benefits of laser therapy is a lowered level of pain. According to one literature review published in Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, LLLT has analgesic properties and helps to reduce pain by lowering biochemical markers and oxidative stress.
This review goes on to explain that LLLT also has anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, it helps reduce inflammation and swelling while accelerating the healing process.
This response makes laser therapy beneficial to a variety of health conditions that commonly coincide with some level of pain, some of which include:
- Wound healing
- Post-operative pain
- Chronic neck pain
- low back pain
- Shoulder pain
- Inflammation reduction
- Pain management
- Cell regeneration
- Scar tissue reduction
